Masters’ Thesis
These are pages from my masters’ degree thesis. I invented the subject, and carried out all of the literary and scientific research myself. The title of the project was: “Analysing with engineering and geospatial methods the feasibility of towing offshore wind turbine blades ashore to reduce cost of decommissioning.” After a year of high-performance marine craft, I was realizing that my interests lay more in the “mediocre-performance-good-for-planet” engineering. I wanted to use the knowledge that I had learned in class but apply it to something ocean and climate focused.

Material Science
The study of materials, components, their manufacturing, and their failure. This is from a short paper - a case study analyzing additive manufacturing. A car piston, aircraft lug, and hip prosthetic are analyzed. I enjoyed this class most out of any at Southampton, unequivocally. The class was called “Failure of Materials and Components.” We learnt about fatigue cracking, corrosion, stress concentrations - I will never look at the built world the same way.

Design Search Optimization
Mathematically finding the optimal design. In this case, the shape of a small aircraft is optimized using a few different optimization techniques.

Risk Analysis
The assessment of human, material, and financial risks throughout the life cycle of engineered things. These are pages of a group paper analyzing the risks present in a ship’s ballast water filtration system.
